Obesity is an epidemic in the United States today. It is a huger problem within our children. There are many causes that contribute to this disease. Obesity in children could be caused by their lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating diets and genetic factors. Some of their effects are on cholesterol, blood pressure, the heart, the blood glucose levels and their bones.
Children are the most active human beings in our life time. They are always running and playing around for fun, but that is not the case all the time in this generation. Now that technology has evolved through the century, we have more kids sitting on the sofa watching more TV and playing games rather than playing out doors. This has led to one of the biggest causes of juvenile obesity. Kids sit their hours at a time watching TV shows back-to-back cause their metabolism to decrease, which causes their body to move slowly at burning ...view middle of the document...
Diet by itself is a huge factor in your health. It determines how you will live when hitting adolescence.
It has been proven family genes could also play a role in juvenile obesity. Even though this might be, you can prevent this and/or control it. Not all children born to obese families will be obese, so it is probable if you will have this disease.
All of these factors named are causes and they lead to some high price effects. One effect of obesity in children is high cholesterol. High cholesterol is where your body has too many Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL) in your blood. High levels of these lipoproteins are very bad for your system. It leads to buildup in your arteries, causing the slowdown of blood flow throughout the body. All this causes a heart disease called Coronary Heart Disease which leads to heart attacks and even death.
Another effect is high blood pressure. Blood pressure is the measure of force of blood pushing up against the walls of your arteries. If this pressure is too high and continues to stay high, it could damage your arteries. This may lead to you having a stroke, heart attack, heart disease, and even kidney failure. High blood pressure in obese children comes from too much hypertension. This may be caused from medical problems such as sleep apnea or lack of sleep.
The biggest effect of all is diabetes. Diabetes is where your body is not making enough insulin to respond to high blood glucose levels. Diabetes in obese kids is the worst thing ever. It leads them having social problems, heart problems, and bone problems. The majority of children who were diagnosed with diabetes due to being obese ended up having to deal with obesity as an adult. This then leads to more effects as adults in the future.
I conclude that obesity is an epidemic. It should be handled with care. Children should play more and eat healthier. All of this will lead to a prosperous life. Parents should take their children to their physicians for an annual check-up. Your doctor will be able to run tests and diagnose if there are any signs of diabetes.
