Odysseus-A Hero

Does a hero have an intelligently wise brain? Does a hero have a brave, confident character trait? Does a hero keep loyal to his country and have integrity of a personality? Yes, a hero does as Odysseus also does, just like the dictionary says, “A hero is a person who is distinguished by smart, noble deeds and courage.” In the film, Odysseus directed by Francis Ford Coppola, Odysseus is a hero because he possesses cleverness, loyalty and courage, three characteristics of a hero.
Above all, Odysseus is an extremely smart person and a man who has a clever brain. For instance, when Odysseus and his sailors were trapped into Cyclopes cave, Odysseus just comes up with a good idea which could let them get out. At first, Odysseus came up with a good idea that could let Cyclopes to be asleep that he brought wine to Cyclopes as a gift. Next, he rapidly pulled out his sword and understatedly stabbed Cyclopes’ eyes, so that Cyclopes ...view middle of the document...

In a word, those two heroic wise acts demonstrate that Odysseus is a hero with an intelligent brain.
In addition, Odysseus is also a symbol of loyal spirit and patriotism. For example, because the only thing a soldier did in a war was that relentlessly decapitated the heads of his opponents. Conversely, Odysseus did not. He acutely realized that children were innocent. They did not belong to this cruel war and absolutely had no menaces for a soldier. Similarly, just as Odysseus seriously commanded his wife to choose a new king if he won’t safely go back home from the Trojan War because in Odysseus’s mind, there was no possibility for a kingdom exist without a king. In short, those two heroically noble and loyal acts proved that Odysseus is a hero who is a noble and a loyal person.
Besides, Odysseus is a brave, confidence king who can keep one’s countenance when dangers come. Especially, when they were returning from Thrinacia, Odysseus was the only person who remained calm whenever Scylla appeared or the Charybdis started to raid them. Identically, Odysseus went to face dangers alone all the time wherever he was in the dangerous, creepy underworld or going to rescue his men on Circe’s Island with being high-risk. Moreover, in my mind, Odysseus is a confident man who believes own power. As an illustration, Odysseus was shouting aloud to Poseidon that he won and conquered Troy by himself; subsequently, Poseidon was enraged by his stupid, ignorant action; eventually, Poseidon just cursed him that he won’t come back to Ithaca again. Although Odysseus’s arrogant behavior caused him to be cursed by Poseidon, but on the contrary, I would say that it was better to believe own power than submit an unknown power because that was a spirit of never giving in and a spirit of confidence. Overall, a courageous, fearless and confident personality is what a hero should have as Odysseus possesses.
As has been mentioned, wisdom, loyalty and courage those three heroic traits are what I have seen upon Odysseus. Obviously, Odysseus is a hero because he does what a hero should do; possess what a hero should posses and acts what a hero should act. All in all, Odysseus is a hero because he is smart, loyal and brave.
