Online Shopping Vs. Traditional Shopping Essay

939 words - 4 pages

Have you ever needed to go shopping, but were dreading the inconveniences that come along with going to the store shopping? That is why online shopping was made available. For those moments when we know exactly what we are looking for and do not have the time to go to the store. Although, online shopping is more convenient in certain circumstances, one must not forget that it is not always a practical alternative, resulting in the need to resort to the method of traditional shopping.
With online shopping you do not have to ever leave your house. You don't have to stress about trying to find a parking spot, dealing with crowds in the stores, or long lines at the cash registers. Simply sit down at your computer and shop away. Although, with online shopping, it is significant that you know exactly what you're looking for and exactly what store you need to shop online at to get it. If you don't know this information, shopping online could turn out to be just as time-consuming and frustrating, as traditional shopping.
As a result with online shopping, it could be more strenuous to find what you're looking for and be guaranteed that you will actually like it, due to limited variety in some items. It's also going to be more tough shopping online for certain items such as clothes, due to the fact that you are unable to try them on. Not every piece of clothing is going to fit the same. Of course you will be able to return the item, if upon arrival you are not satisfied or it doesn't fit you properly, but who wants to tackle that mess? Furthermore, who wants the disappointment that comes along with online shopping if you order something and it doesn't work out. You really liked it but unfortunately you have to send it back now. One must also be prepared to finally find what they have been searching for online, only to have it be out of stock. Online items do not always have substantial amounts that are kept in stock, due to a majority of shoppers going to the stores to locate the items they are searching for.
Onto the shipping costs and the time that it is going to take for arrival, associated with online shopping. Some companies do provide free shipping for orders over a certain dollar amount, but that may not always apply to everyone. Then after you have finalized your order making it complete, you find out that it's going to take 10-14 business days for your package to arrive. That won't work as you need it before then. Now your stuck going shopping to the store anyway for what you needed.
