Management and Operations Management Theory PaperThis paper will describe how the different functions of management impact the operations management theory of an organization. The four functions of management are: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Included in the following paper will be: A description of the four management functions, A description of what the operations management theory is and will also explain how the four management functions impact the operations management theory.Four Management FunctionsPlanning- Within an organization planning is the ongoing process of creating and obtaining the business' mission and objectives and also determining how these will be accomplished.Organizing- To organize is to establish an internal organizational structure of the organization. In establishing this, the ideal is to focus on division, coordination, and control of tasks and the flow of information within the organization.Leading- To lead in an organization is to influence people's behavior through motivation, communication, teamwork, leadership, and discipline.Controlling- Controlling is steps that are followed that allow establishing performance standards based on the organizations objectives, the measurement and reporting these performances and what corrective or preventive action is taken as necessary.Operations Management TheoryThe Operation Management Theory is: Inputs, (people, plants and parts) + transformation, (planning and processing) = Outputs, (goods, services)How the four management functions impact the operations management theoryPlanning- Planning is one of the most common activity of the management process. Planning is important because it is this process that sets everything in motion, usually some type of system. A system consists of inputs, processes, outputs, and outcomes. Inputs to a system include the resources of raw materials. Then the inputs go through a process or transformation where they're matched up, moved forward and very carefully coordinated, all to achieve the goals set for this system. Outputs are results produced by processes in the system, such as products or services for consumers, e.g., jobs for workers, enhanced quality of life for customers, etc. Systems can consists of the whole organization, or just departments, groups, etc.Organizing- Organizing is an important part of an organization. Using the five P's we can access this problem.People- asking the employees of the organization for their help, often times the employees know more of what is going on. Designate people to certain tasks, have teams, have office meetings and follow-up on plans that are made.Develop a good personnel policy to help you find and keep good employees.
