The average Canadian watches 30 hours of television a week. Television is one of the biggest influences in media, and just one show can change someone’s life. One of these influential shows is the Oprah Winfrey Show. It was one of Oprah Winfrey’s greatest achievements that gave her the opportunity of a lifetime to speak to the world around her. She was able to help people that were just like her, and make people’s lives better. She was the first black female talk-show host, and even at the age of 60, she still reaches out to people.

She began public speaking again in her church, with her parents watching.
She then moved back with her mother, with her father’s suggestion. Oprah was very rebellious as a teenager, and since she was not able to speak to others about her abuse, she began stealing money from her mother and meeting with boys. At the age of 15, her parents discovered she was pregnant, and they supported her throughout her pregnancy. She gave birth to a boy, who died two weeks afterwards.
Oprah was influenced to turn her life around by Maya Angelou. After reading her autobiography, she was inclined to focus on learning and public speaking. She won a major public speaking competition, which earned her a four-year college scholarship. She was chosen to represent Nashville in the Miss Fire Prevention beauty pageant, and she was the only black girl to participate. She ended up winning the pageant, and as a reward, she was given her own radio station to host.
She later became the host of a talk-show (People Are Talking), where she invited people to come and speak their mind. She was great at helping them, since she experienced many of their setbacks early in her own life. Her speaking skills and her compassion proved to be very useful when comforting these people. After the show became very popular, it attracted celebrities to visit the show and talk with Oprah. She became widely known as a caring, warm-hearted, and bright person. She had experience in hosting her own morning show, after eight years with People Are Talking. She was the host of A.M. Chicago for a while after that, and her ratings went through the roof. Her charming persona won the hearts of many, and she was recognized throughout the United States for her fame.
