This is how the World Commission on Environment and Development defines sustainable development in 1987 Report cited by Millar & Hind, 2012. Business leaders believes that sustainability is one of the keystone of competition within their sector, and is causing both opportunity for, and risk to, long term competitive advantage. They also recognize the importance of implementation and organisational change as the major issues in sustainability for the future of their company (Lubin and Esty, 2010 cited in Millar & Hind, 2012).

Commitment has been considered as one of the most essential aspects in explaining employees’ behavior and positive work outcomes. Most of the time it is further conceptualised in terms of organisational commitment.

Various scholars were cited in Ahmad and Oranye, (2010) to discuss the meaning of organisational committed. For example Shahnawaz and Juyal (2006 p. 176) definition of organisational commitment is an effort that binds the employees to take a relevant action toward one objective, the view of O Reilly and Chatman (1986, p. 493) that organisational commitment is the emotional connection felt by the employees to the organisation that shows the degree to which the individual embrace the characteristics or culture of the organisation. Many researcher uses Meyer and Allen (1990) concept of organisational commitment in their reviews, who said that organisational commitment is a “psychological state or mind-set”, that has a great factor in keeping an employee loyal to the company. Evidence from the change management literatures shows the role of organisational commitment plays an important role in employee's acceptance of change. Organisational commitment is one of the antecedent of successful organisational change, it is also reported to be better predictors of employee behaviour than job satisfaction (Iverson, 1996). Meyer & Herscovitch, (2002) stated that commitment is necessary for the successful implementation of a change initiative (p. 475). These findings suggest that organisational commitment has an influence on attitudes to organisational change. High organisational commitment leads to a willingness to accept and adopt to changes, therefore there is a positive relationship exists between organisational commitment and attitudes to change.

Individuals work in an organisation with different needs, skills, expectations and they desire to find a company with an environment that will satisfy their needs. When an individual find this opportunities, the possibility of increasing commitment is high. Meyer and Allan (1991) introduced the three components of commitment, this model is composed of affective commitment (desire to remain), continuance commitment (perceived cost of leaving) and normative commitment (perceive obligation to remain) cited in Elias, (2007).
