Organizational Behavior at [INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE]To fully understand how an organization can grow and the qualities of high performing organizations and teams, it is essential to delve deep into the topic of Organizational Behavior (OB). Within the study of OB, there have been 5 key areas/terms that need to be examined to fully understand any specific organizations' OB. The five areas of my current organization ([INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE]) that I have chosen to examine in this paper are:* Organizational culture* Perception and reaction - Attribution theory* Motivation - Expectancy theory* Leadership - Empowerment and Power* Globalization - Global managersBecause of [INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE]'s base as a wholly owned Japanese subsidiary, these are the five areas that I feel need to be examined to fully understand the OB of [INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE]. We will examine how these five areas are used and implemented in the company. Once we see how the OB of [INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE] behaves, we can accurately critique management and suggest areas of improvement.DiscussionOrganizational CultureSchermerhorn, Hunt and Osborn define organizational culture as, "... the system of shared actions, values, and beliefs that develops within an organization and guides that behavior of its members."(Schermerhorn, Hunt, Osborn Chap 13, 26) Because the study of OB centers on the study of individuals and groups, the organization's culture plays a major role in how the OB tends to lean. [INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE] has a very conservative culture. Many of our competitors do not have conservative cultures. As such, [INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE] tends to take longer to produce new promotional pieces and marketing campaigns that are on the conservative side.We are always releasing promotional pieces and marketing campaigns that have all disclaimers of the products, known as fair balance. Most of our competitors tend to keep fair balance to a minimum and usually in smaller font. [INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE] has taken the stance that our fair balance cannot be smaller than 10 font on any piece and has to be a certain percentage of the largest font on the promotional piece. Although this may seem like a small detail, physicians, pharmacists and patients have all said that [INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE]'s campaigns/pieces looked 'too busy' and that they ignored half of the material on the page because of this. Also because of the stringent rules of developing pieces/campaigns, one piece can take several months of interdepartmental meetings to be approved internally before submitting to the FDA and DDMAC. While this may be [INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE]'s main company culture, there are moves being made to a more forward thinking and aggressive culture.
