Organizing Role of ManagementByMatthew E. StevensUniversity of PhoenixMay 2006Even though without an understanding or experienced staff, organizing can become the most difficult area for an organization to overcome, the role of organizing should become the most important skill of the manager because organization shows professionalism and trustworthiness. Organizing requires knowledge of assets, finances, personnel, knowledge and technology. This paper will focus on knowledge and technology as it relates to my organization in the US Army.Organizing is assembling and coordinating the human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources needed to achieve goals. (Bateman and Snell, 2004) Some of the activities during organizing include gathering information, selecting the right personnel, assigning specific jobs, analyzing resources and creating a working environment conducive of productivity. The Army of today relies greatly on personal experiences to help gain insightful knowledge on specific situations to plan for training its units. Since the 1980's, the Army has developed a research branch specifically used for gaining this knowledge. The Center for Army Lessons Learned or CALL was developed for gathering and analyzing information collected from Soldiers and the civilian workforce on personal experiences encountered during specific and day to day operations. The center then develops lessons and training for use by Commanders, Staff and Students to incorporate into learning. The knowledge gained through this media helps in eliminating strategic and tactical mistakes made in relation to upcoming training events or possible deployments to hostile environments. CALL has literally changed the way we prepare for future operations and conflicts in the Army. We can now refer to past encounters with unknown enemies and plan for similar encounters and experiences that may arise. This information is passed down and trained at the lowest level ensuring that everyone involved is prepared. The website provides lessons learned topics to all branches of the armed services, joint services, federal establishments and allied international forces as well. There are literally thousands of examples which cover nearly every aspect of warfighting in the military today, not to mention the newest addition to the CALL website which covers topics on disaster relief for situations similar to hurricane Katrina operations. In addition to the lessons learned entries, there is an archives section from past operations and training experiences ranging from Operation Enduring Freedom back to...
