Have you ever been involved in a classroom with classmates that like to participate, contribute, and come to class? This was my first year attending Bridgewater State University after transferring from Dean College. Compared to the classrooms at Dean, this class is very involved, which makes the class fun and not boring. Also, the class was not a fifty minute lecture that made me want to fall asleep after ten minutes. Every class was different and interactive. Whether presentations from group members, squad competitions, and or the professor teaching us thoroughly. An interactive class is overall a better environment to learn. In an interactive classroom, everyone wants to participate and has their opinion, instead of staring at the professor with blank faces. In the first week of the semester we were assigned into our squad teams and given our squad assignments. I was very proud with my squad and could tell we were going to get our work done. When asked who wanted to participate as the Squad Sergeant, Patrick and I both raised our hands. Patrick became the Squad Sergeant because he beat me in rock-paper-shoot. I was not upset, because I knew he would get the job done and I knew I could rely on him. Petra, Patrick and I were in Squad seven. From my point of view, I believe we were very successful and we got our work done. I do remember the professor saying that our presentation was “one of the best he has ever seen”, so that gave me some confidence. Furthermore, the semester was a successful one. The class was taught to make us cooperate. It was not too hard, but needed cooperation. The groups that cooperated and did their duties were the groups that were going to succeed. However, groups that did not cooperate, were lazy, and did assignments last minute were probably not successful. Success is all about effort, work ethic, preparation and cooperation. This class has taught me the main factors that will lead me to success. Also, many of the factors are involved in everyday life, especially in Police, Community and Society.

At the beginning of the semester the professor established the difference between a manager and a leader. A manager is one that seeks to improve status quo. Management is maintaining, planning, organizing, coordinating and copying. However, a leader wants to change for the better, inspire and motivate. Leaders are original. There are two categories of leaders, informal and formal leaders. Formal leaders are members of an organization who have been given authority and power by virtue of his or her position to influence other members of the organization to achieve organizational goals. An example of a formal leader would be Barrack Obama. Moreover, an informal leader does not hold a position of authority or power, but is perceived by his or her peers or community or by an example is seen as worthy or paying attention to, following or emulating. An example of an informal leader would be Dr. Martin Luther King or Gandhi. If I...
