When we hear illegal alien what do you think? Automatically a Hispanic person comes to mind well they are not the only ones, but these are the ones that we hear of the most thanks to the media and palliation’s that use immigration as a topic to draw attention to themselves for the majority vote. Ironically immigrants build this country and they should get the recognition they deserve, along with the perk of being able to apply for United States citizenship, without having to jump through hoops.
We have all heard of immigration at some point and it affects all of us even in the tiniest of ways. The ladies that cleans our houses, watch our children, cook our food and the men that wash our cars, collect cans or help you move to a different home. These are only mere examples of some jobs immigrants are forced to work because without a green card the chances of finding a decent job are slim to none. Some immigrants take these types of jobs because they would rather wash a stranger’s toilet than be homeless or begging out on the streets for change. Adding to that those are the jobs that no citizen really wants to do, because they are demeaning. What is so demeaning about cleaning? Like my mom always says “as long as you’re not stealing or hurting anyone you can keep your head up high because you are working honestly. Never be ashamed”.
Not only that these same immigrants have a higher chance of being exploited. Some immigrants are pushed to work in unhealthy, unsanitary conditions that can remind you of a sweat shop more or less. Some of the people that work there are stuck because they are afraid that they won’t be able to find another job and their families need that money to survive, because bills wait for no one. The bosses know this and take advantage of the fact that there are many other undocumented workers are willing to take their place, work is the supply in demand. You are stuck between working at this mediocre job that you hate or not having a job at all and letting you family down. That is a very tough decision for most and that is why most immigrants are mistreated in the work place.
For example, when my mom and I were selling food out of our car to make money, we found a lot of these big factories filled with hungry people and we were thrilled to have customers. After a while we got a little bit more personal with our customers and got to know them apparently the factory makes T-shirts. We asked them how much they were paid, if they got any benefits and if they were happy. The answers they gave us were quite shocking. These illegal workers were being paid $5.79 an hour, less than minimum wage, and worked from 4am-8pm and sometimes even more when they had big orders to fill with no overtime. They had no benefits and were upset that their boss, this mean evil lady, always yelled at them and did it in front of everyone, basically treating them like garbage. Not only that, she docked their pay on random occasions and when the...
