Being an energetic and enthusiastic person, I participated many activities in my secondary school life before, some of them imperceptibly cultivated my interest in learning business, also equipped me to have different personal skills. I took part in the Job Shadow Programme that let me have a unique opportunity to work in a business firm for two days. This programme not only widened my eyesight, knowing more about the real situation in workplace, also refreshed me to think about having a career pathway towards the business sector.
Besides, I completed the JA Company Programme hosted by Junior Achievement Hong Kong, it gave me an extraordinary experience to run a small business, as well as contributed to my passion towards marketing. I was in charge of sales and marketing affairs, I discovered how wonderful the whole process was. Starting from zero, we needed to know about our customers, followed by the inspiration of products, then focused on pricing using portfolio pricing technique. In fact it was challenging as I was inexperienced at that time, however I was ignited a spark of interest in marketing and the psychology behind it after joining this meaningful programme.
The decision of choosing marketing as my major was also inspired by series of an economic and educational television programme named ‘All About Money Series’ produced by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK). This programme often mentions some marketing theories which always related to psychology, for instance ‘impulse purchase’ and ‘customer loyalty’ indicated about the strategies used by pharmacy and supermarket to compete with each other. I am enthusiastic in these stories, hence I would like to study this further in my university studies.
