My heart used to leap every March after the announcement of Fulbright scholarships. The only reason for this enthusiasm is that I want to get the chance to pursue my study in the country which is nowadays second to none in education. I spent almost the entire this year preparing for the competition, and now I am writing eagerly to apply for a Master’s degree in Anatomy. After returning from the US, I intend to continue my academic work as an Anatomy teacher and researcher at the Kabul Medical University.

At the university, I have been extensively involved in a variety of extracurricular activities through Afghan Active Youth and in Ibn Sina Cultural Committee. In school, I was a co-founding member in establishing for the first time a volunteer student’s organization by the name of Afghan Active Youth (AAY). With the AAY, I have helped organize different capacity building programs for students such as delivering extra-curricular medical courses in medicine, workshops on behavioral science, discussions about environmental conservation and short-term programs in leadership and management. My enthusiasm and volunteer spirit were recognized by the Kabul Medical University and the Active Afghan Youth through certificates and awards.
Furthermore, to play my part as an active member of the community I volunteered about four years for the Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA), a member association of the International Planned Parenthood Foundation (IPPF). During my association with AFGA I worked on the improvement of health and well-being of my peers by educating them and building their awareness on reproductive health issues such as HIV/AIDs and contraception.
