Personality, emotional intelligence, and decision making assessments
In my current role as a supervisor understanding how I behave in situations is critical. Based on the everyday occurrences associated with managing 13 professional adults, it is important for me to know where my strengths and weaknesses are in three areas: personality, emotional intelligence, and decision making. There are several assessments that highlight areas of strength and weakness. To complete this assignment I took an assessment from each category. In all honesty I just completed a project where I checked my work through an outside accountant, an analyst, and my team before submitting my work that I was already confident in. I believe I do this as a result of self-awareness of my need to check my work.
My personality fits very well in my organization as described in my Maetrix assessment. The remaining three categories I scored a 9, 10, and 10 highlighting strengths in leadership. I also scored a 71 out of 90 on my decision-making skills assessment, putting me in the excellent range. A part of my emotional intelligence comes from following the idea that my teams would be, and are 90% effective if I am not there, however if it were only me I would probably only be able to do 10% of the work my teams need to complete on a given day (Cottrell, 2002). I believe that my people are capable of doing the jobs I assign to them. Since I would merely bring 10% to the table if it were just me, then my 10% needs to be focused on removing any possible obstacles my people may encounter doing their job. So emotional intelligence shows as strong on the Maetrix assessment because I think about my people first in everything I do. I need them much more than they need me.
My decision making style does lend itself to over confidence at times. I do feel that after taking in a situation and gaining an understanding of that situation, I should be able to make a decision and be confident that is the best decision I could have made.
