Physical Education Personal Training Volleyball

1272 words - 5 pages

Starting PointThe personal training is made for students to actively show their skills and working with a certain sport as an individual. Each student was to choose a sport that he/she is interested in and focus on a skill within the range of skill work in the sport. A sport does not simply consist of practicing certain moves, but also focusing on fitness, healthy eating patterns, etc.We were to plan a five week training program and focus on areas to work on to improve on a chosen skill. In the beginning we were to asses our fitness level and then again at the end to look for improvements. Each PE lesson first focused on the fitness part of the program, and the second half of the period was prepared for skill practice. Training outside of school is also expected.Skills and fitnessThe skill I chose to focus on was volleyball. It is a sport that I happen to like very much and I know that it will be the sport I plan to do in the IB, therefore I wanted to most practice I could get. The skill within volleyball that I chose was overhand serving. My underhand serves are quite safe, however overhand serves provide an advantage because they can be served very low and with much power. For the fitness part, I planned on working on overall body strength; however focus most on upper body strength.Goal settingThe goal of my personal training program was to first of all learn how to properly do an overhand serve. Before this I had had very little practice and I could definitely tell that it was a weak point I had in volleyball. I know, even from the beginning, that I wasn't prepared to set a goal for example placing the ball right because I was not that far ahead in my overhand serving experience. So, my overall goal in one statement:The goal of my personal training is to learn how to do a proper overhand serve, and by strengthening it work on upper body strength.Testing and trainingThe first PE lesson was testing our fitness level at that point. I planned to test my upper body strength before and after. I also planned to go to the gym every other day to work on these areas. The things I tested myself on in the first lesson were sit-ups (abs), bench presses (triceps), chin press/ push ups (biceps) and upper shoulder.Day 1, February 3- first day of testing. Included:1. sit ups, per minute: 602. triceps, bench press: 303. amount of pushups possible non-stop: 7Day 2, February 5- went to the gym; cardio work out.Day 3, February 7: did the same testing again for a second set of results:4. sit ups in one minute: 665. bench press: 216. biceps, push ups: 137. chin ups: 08. cm stretched: 21.Day 4, February 10: started working on overhand serving.Day 5, February 12: gym.Day 6, February 15: gym.Day 7, February 21: in class working on serving and fitness.Day 8, February 24: in class working on serving and fitness.Day 9, February 27: gym.Day 10, February 28: last PE lesson for personal training. Results for last lesson:1. sit ups in one minute: 692. bench press: 233. push...
