In today’s academic world many students are challenged when it comes to writing, or so they think. Many of them believe that they can go on the internet and use whatever is needed for the paper they are writing. Maybe it is a lack of knowledge or confidence that they are capable of expressing themselves on paper. The majority of the time many students procrastinate until the last minute to write a paper. There are few thing students need to learn about plagiarism such as what is plagiarism, how to cite sources correctly, methods of detecting plagiarism, and what academic punishment they face when caught.

Fourth, is aggregator is when students cite their source but, the concept is not their own. And the last one is re-tweet, re-tweet is when the writer cites its sources properly but, the content and wording are similar.
It is equally important to address the dangers of plagiarism and students. For example, many students believe that they can research information on a subject just to get an idea of how to write it or what the instructor is looking for. They don’t believe it is a form of cheating, but clearly as defined above it is plagiarism. For instance, (Zimerman, 2012, p. 295) a student stated that if he did not directly copy a concept or idea it was acceptable. The question to ask is do students plagiarize knowingly or unknowingly. This why students are dangerous when it comes to plagiarism. Their perception doesn’t align with the definition. If a student is taught properly how to cite sources maybe plagiarism would decrease.
In addition, to the different types of plagiarisms students commit in the academic environment there are several ways students can prevent plagiarism by learning how to properly citing their sources. The first type of citing is Quoting a source. When quoting a source you giving credit to the author you retrieved it from. When quoting there are three different ways to use quotations when directly quoting from a source. The first is in-text quoting; it is used when you are quoting from a source using forty words or less According to (APA, 2010, p. 172). Quotations should include: the author, year and page or volume number enclosed in parenthesis. If you’re quoting more than forty words you should use what is called a block quotation. If you are using a block quotation you don’t use quotation marks, and cite your source at the end of the quotation.
