Only law enforcement and the military should be allowed to own handguns or assault weapons. If everyone in the world can have access to these guns the crime rate will keep increasing. We should only be able to own/buy guns that are certified for hunting purposes. This will allow people to own/buy a regular shotgun or rifle. What kind of criminal is going to go running around with shotguns and rifles breaking into houses or killing young innocent victims? Criminals are going to do whatever they can to get their job done. At least banning handguns and assault weapons should decrease the rate of deaths from weapons in the United States.
Military and police forces should be the only people that have possession of assault weapons. There is not a reason for anyone on the street to own an assault weapon. After the killings in Aurora, Colorado and Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut the debate on right to bear arms is alive and a hot topic in Washington D.C. It is sad that it took terrible killings to bring the topic to the attention of America again. Many Americans feel that the second amendment gives them the right to own mass weapons of destructions, and weapons like these can change a community terribly. How many senseless killings will it take to change how Americans feel?

The big debate in both those cases was the “militia clause.” Today we have armed forces that are ready to fight and defend our country in the time of battle, unlike 1791 when our country was still new and vulnerable.
When gun legislation is on the table many people begin to become interested, including victims, family member and the National Riffle Association. Unfortunately the gun industry plays a major role in the development of gun laws in the United States. Mountjoy explains how Colt Manufacturing that has been in Connecticut for 175 years announced in April that it was leaving. Making it very clear that they would be taking with them 1.7 billion dollars that it contributes to Connecticut economy. The move was decided after the new gun legislation passed following the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting. After the Colorado movie theatre slayings Magpul, a company that manufactures magazines would be leaving Colorado and taking all it’s suppliers with them. These major impacts on a state’s economy influence...
