Political science; a degree that will change your life, and the world.
"The method of political science is the interpretation of life; its instrument is insight, a nice understanding of subtle, unformulated conditions."
As Woodrow Wilson said, political science is an instrument of insight. Political scientists help us to understand decisions and conditions set upon society by our government. Political scientists can be used as advisors, analyzers, researchers, and much more. They break down and explain the decisions made by our governments and predict what they're going to do next. I think political science is the greatest degree for a student who wants to make a difference politically. Political science is a road to success for many people. Evidence for that statement is shown throughout the history of political science.
Political science has been around for centuries. As stated in the encyclopedia of careers and vocational guidance, “Political science is one of the oldest social sciences” that being said, it has been around for a very long time. Over time, ideals have changed, and political science has changed along with it. As we grew as people, so did political science. Many of the old ideals and theories of political science are still around today. As also said in the Encyclopedia of careers and vocational guidance, "The ideas of many political scientists still influence current political theories". For example, Machiavelli, a 16th century Italian statesman and philosopher believed politics and morality are two entirely different ideals in human activity and that they should be governed by different standards and laws. In the 17th century, Thomas Hobbes thought of a government as a police department who prevented others from robbing their neighbors. John Locke was a 17th century englishman from where we get the utilitarianistic philosophy of "The greatest good for the greatest amount of people". Some call him the originator of beneficent paternalism. Beneficent paternalism means that the state or ruler acts as a kindly leader to its citizens, deciding what is best for them, then overseeing that the best thing for it`s people is put into effect, whether the citizens favor it or not. Those are just a few examples of the many ideas still around in our era that were visualized by early political scientists. "Political science is one of the most popular subjects of undergraduate study." also said by the encyclopedia of careers and vocational guidance. As the years pass, more and more college students start to gain an interest in politics, and choose to try and make a difference in them. If you have the qualifications of a political science major, are interested in the subject, and have the traits needed, you will go for in this field.
