Finally, there is air pollution. Air Pollution is the accumulation of hazardous substances into the atmosphere that danger human life and other living matter (Enclyopedia - Pollution, 2008).This can be in the form of particulate matter such as dust or excessive gases like carbon dioxide or other vapors that cannot be effectively removed through natural cycles, such as the carbon cycle (Mayntz, 2006). Some causes of air pollution is automobile emissions, combustion of coal, smokes from cars and construction, power plants, manufacturing buildings, large ships, paint fumes, and aerosol sprays. The effects of air pollution are smog increases, crop depletion from inadequate oxygen, ...view middle of the document...
The burning of the dump has occurred numerous times in The Bahamas for the past five years. The recent incident of the dump burning was just in March of 2014 (The dump, its fires, and the billion-dollar hotel, 2014, para. 1-10). When the dump burns it can last over a period of more than two days, covering the whole island, and affecting numerous of citizens, especially those that live near the dump site (The dump, its fires, and the billion-dollar hotel, 2014, para. 5-8).
In The Bahamas, air pollution causes a great deal of health problems; such as aggravated asthma, bronchitis, lung and heart diseases, and respiratory allergies. Clean air is an important factor to consider because air that is polluted can result in death. However, our health is not the only thing to be threatened, our environment is threatened too. Indeed, air pollution causes some disorders on the environment, meanly the increase in sea temperatures and the destruction of coral reefs, in The Bahamas. If The Bahamas continues to burn fossil fuel and sending more pollution in the atmosphere this can cause a great deal of health problems for its citizens.
To help prevent air pollution in The Bahamas, the citizens can become responsible citizens, be fair, honest and show respects for others by changing the fuel in their car to less efficient energy fuel, service there car when needed, stop burning unnecessary fires, stand up to the government as a body and inform them of how the cruise ships are polluting the country, stop smoking and decrease the amount of aerosol products in their homes. Doing this, the Bahamians can decrease air pollution in The Bahamas, stop threatening their environment and health, and save The Bahamas.
The Commonwealth of The Bahamas is truly polluted. Pollution harms The Bahamas and its inhabitants through land pollution, air pollution, and water pollution. Conversations about pollution must occur in order to protect and keep The Bahamas in a better condition. There are several essential resources such as ground water, surface water, air quality, coral reefs, sea grasses, mangroves, and the other economic industries that have been affected or can become affected by pollution. The complete Bahamian population is also affected by pollution, whether it air, land or water pollution, and this can cause several of health problems in the Bahamian society. These problems are ranging from simply vomiting and skin irritations to respiratory difficulties, intestinal cancer, and gastroenteritis formation of ulcers, and tumors. Also, health problems due to pollution can range from fever to fatal hepatitis and throat irritation to deadly heart diseases.
Over the past decades, the Bahamian government has made some efforts such as The Clean Air Act of 1956, conservation of habitats by the Nature Conservancy and The Bahamas National Trust, implementation of sewage treatment facilities to remove harmful bacteria, and by carrying out the recycling...
