Pop Star Showdown: Madonna Vs. Miley Cyrus

1955 words - 8 pages

From “the heart breaker” to smoking weed on stage, pop culture has really taken a turn for the worst. Madonna was the type of girl who partied with the best of them but didn't do anything that could possibly ruin her career and health. Miley Cyrus, on the other hand, is a wild child who does what she wants and could care less about her social image and physical self. These two pop stars also have many things in common as well. But, from looking at the individual lives of Madonna and Miley Cyrus, there is a noticeable difference in pop culture over time.
Madonna was loved by almost everybody. She had a personality to die for., and “Some say that Madonna’s image is that of a girl ‘you hate to love’. One who is irresistible even though you know she will break your heart” (Greenberg 8). She was one of those girls that no matter how much someone hated her, they couldn’t help but to love her. To this day, she is still known as one of the great woman in rock and roll and as even been indicted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (People Magazine; Madonna). Madonna was also a huge trend setter and also has multiple clothing lines around the world. Seymour Stein, the Sire Records executive who signed her from his hospital bed remembered: “I was very impressed with how determined she was. I don’t want to use the word ruthless; at the time, I said, ‘Shes somebody who would take a shortcut through a cemetery at night to get somewhere.’ You could tell it in her eyes ”(Student Resources in Context, “Madonna”). She is also a very determined person when it comes down to it and will not take no for an answer. Madonna was an inspiration in the 80s but, these days, there’s a new inspiration in the pop culture world.
This new inspiration who is known world wide, is Miley Cyrus. She began her stardom at an early age. Miley wrote songs and sang around the house when she was just a little girl. Miley also took acting lessons. But she lived a relatively normal life. She was always smiling and laughing which led to her family calling her “smiley” (Miley Cyrus). Her parents (Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus) named her Destiny Hope Cyrus which was later changed to Miley which is the shortening of her nickname “smiley”. Miley also lived on a 500 acre farm in Nashville, Tn. This pop sensation also has a huge attitude which is shown in an interview with Ronan Farrow. Miley says, “i don't love kids, i don't love them because I think I was around too many kids at one point. Theyre so fucking mean. Sometimes i hear kids with their parents, and I want to go over and, like, smack them myself like if they meet me, they’ll be like, ‘Mom, don't you know how to use an iPhone? Like, can you take the picture?’ I’m like ‘Dude, if I ever talked to my mom like that when I was a kid, I would have had no phone, no computer, no TV, no anything.’ And so, yeah, kids are just mean (I Don’t Love Kids).” This is her way of saying that this generation of kids, in her eyes, were not raised the...
