Almost is Never Enough
“Almost is Never Enough” was written by Ariana Grande and performed by Ariana
Grande and Nathan Sykes. Ariana was inspired to write this song because of her break up with
her boyfriend Jai Brooks in 2013.1 Although this is not her only relationship, this was the most
recent relationship before she wrote this song. Ariana Grande’s music always relates to her life,
she isn't the kind of person to keep a diary because she would rather put her feelings in her
songs. She writes about her life to make her music more personal, and the songs can relate to
her.2 When singers write music that ...view middle of the document...

“Almost is Never Enough” is personal to Ariana because she has been in relationships
that have obviously ended because they weren’t exactly sure how they felt about each other.
Instead of talking to each other and trying to figure out what to do they separate and move on
and in most cases they usually never talk to each other ever again. I picked this song because I
have been in relationships that have ended and I haven’t actually been completely sure why, but
my most recent relationship ended because the guy didn’t think I cared about him. There were
things that I did that continued to bother him, but he never told me about it and instead he
pretended that nothing was wrong. He assumed that I knew how he felt because all of our friends
knew, but no one made it clear to me that didn’t like it. Other reasons we broke up, were because
he felt as though I didn't trust him by some of the things that I did, when in reality I only did
those things because they made me realize how much he truly cared about me. He never talked to
me about these things because he didn’t want to make me feel bad, but when it was to much for
him to handle he eventually walked away, but instead of giving up I tried to find out what was
going on. Although we still are not together, we have managed to still be friends and have still
been making our way to a happier ending. I also picked this song because when I was a little girl,
my parents got divorced. Although my dad didn’t treat my mom right, he realizes how much of a
mistake he made by letting her go, but he realizes it was best for her to walk away regardless of
how much he cared about her.
“Almost is Never Enough” was in Ariana’s album Yours Truly, but it also appearing in
the sound track of “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.”3 Ariana’s songs help people when
they are going through some difficult relationship problems, and I feel like it relates well with
