Power and Politics
Organization needs both power and politics to survive and make the business good. Power means the ability to do or act; capability of doing or accomplishing something. Power also means great, strength, might, and force. Politics means the practice or profession of conducting political affairs. Politics also means maneuvers, strategy in obtaining any position of power or control, as in business. Power and politics are the same because you need power for politics and you need politics for power. For both you need to be great, you need strength, might, and force. You also have to accomplish something great.
In order to manager an organization. You have to have good people skills and good communication. Manager also needs to have good leadership skills. This is the only way a business can succeed. Also to have a successful organization manager need to not only make sure their technical skills are good, but they need to have good people skills. A manager is someone who gets things done through people. They also have to "make decision, allocate resources, and direct the activities of other to attain goals" for the company (Robbins, Judge, 2009).
Managers are responsible for a lot of things in order to run a successful company. Manager must "command, organize, planning, commanding, and coordinating." Manager need to have certain skills that will impact the organization in a good way. They need to have technical skills. Most jobs now days use technically in the workplace. So management needs to require some specialized expertise and most people develop this skill on the job. They need human skills. You have to be able to understand, motivate people, and be able to work together in order to be a good leader. You also need conceptual skills. Manager need to be able to have the mental ability to analyze and diagnose complex situations. Manager must have decision making skills (Robbins, Judge, 2009).
One real world examples of the relationship between power and politics is in 1970s, Chrysler Corporation was going into bankruptcy.
