HAUNTED HOUSESWe see haunted houses in movies and on tv all the time but what are theyreally like? Do they even exist? What are they like? Where are they at? There aremany questions and mysteries about ghosts and haunted houses that are veryintriguing.There are many famous haunted houses. One very famous house is EdgarAllen Poe's house. Many people claim to have seem not only his ghost but alsoghosts of his wife and other people that have lived there. People have also reportedhearing strange noises when no one was around, being tapped on the shoulder withno one there, and heard voices. During the 1940's houses were built all around hishouse in the Poe Homes Neighborhood. A few residents say they are scared of hishouse and the local gangs don't ouch the place. Also people say that now Poe'sghost haunts the whole neighborhood! Some people claim that you can hear himrunning on the rooftops and one person even claims to have seen his ghost sitting ata desk writing.Another famous haunted house is the White House! People that have stayedthere have claimed to have seen Teddy Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and mostcommonly, Abraham Lincoln. The most famous story is that one night a womanwas staying in the Lincoln bedroom and she heard a knock at her door. When sheanswered it she saw Abraham Lincoln Standing there.So why are some houses haunted? The reasons for this are varied. Some arecomplicated and unique to that spirit and others are simple to understand andrelate to. Some spirits remain at or near the site of their death, especially if it wassudden and unexpected. They remain confused and don't know or accept that theyhave died. These spirits remain in the area and try to make contact with anyonethat passes by that is sensitive to spirits. This type of spirit can be found almostanywhere a death has occurred.Sometimes a spirit realizes that it is dead and that life continues beyond that.They do not go to the light for reasons such as the fear that their existence will end,fear of the unknown, fear of going to hell or being judged for past deeds. Thesespirits are bound here because of their own fears.Other spirits stay behind to take care of unfinished business. It may be tomake sure their finances and their loved ones are ok or to pass along one finalmessage. Often these earthbound spirits do not remain here for long, oncethey can complete their goal, they normally pass over. If the deed that they areattempting to finish is complicated they will often contact the living to assist them.In many cases the living are unsure of what the spirit wants and it adds to thelength of the time the spirit spends here. Almost anything that a spirit feelscompelled to do before it goes to the light can make it remain here until it feelscomfortable with how they have left things.Guilt can also be a reason for a spirit being stuck here.
