Who are the people who always manage to embarrass every kid’s life? The answer is obvious; our parents. They seem to always know the perfect way to make you look like an ignoramus in front of other people. Most of the time, parents are overprotective, incognizant, thick-headed, and stubborn. Although they love you, the majority of parents express their love the wrong way. Deep within the notorious category that parents are defined in, there is a type of parent that blows all other types out of the water. This is the foreign parent. These parents have every single of characteristic of a regular parent, but also have many different qualities that set them apart from the normal parent. Parents that immigrated into this country are totally embarrassing because they have a speech barrier, they have a different mindset than most of the native people, and they often take situations into extreme measures.
All foreign parents have problems with communicating. This is understandable because they were brought up in a different part of the world. This, however, isn’t the biggest problem. The real problem comes when the waiter has to ask my parents to clearly repeat the question because he or she could not decipher what my parents were saying. In the end, I always tell the waiter what my parents were inquiring about. Foreign parents talk like they are oblivious to the fact that the person they are talking to is having a hard time understanding. and lack of analyzing skills. At the Netherfield ball, Mrs. Bennet mortified Elizabeth, her daughter, by talking about how great it would be for a rich man like Mr. Bingley to marry Jane Bennet. The whole time, Elizabeth was urging her to shut up because Darcy could hear her. Mrs. Bennet’s responded, “I am sure we owe him no such particular civility as to be obliged to say nothing he may not like to hear.” (Austen 99) This certainly shows us Mrs. Bennet’s incompetency with communication because she ignores her daughter’s pleas and offends Darcy.
The second reason why foreign parents are totally embarrassing is their totally different mentality. They were raised with different customs and values, which transmit to the way they raise their...
