Pro-Choice, Not Abortion The decision to support abortion is the same as a decision to support free speech. In the US, a woman has the right to make the choice. Women have the right to make decisions about when and with whom they reproduce with. Fredrika writes, "No woman wants an abortion as she wants an ice cream cone or a Porsche. She wants an abortion as an animal caught in a rap wants to gnaw off its own leg" (Mathewes-Green, Real Choices, 19.) What Fredrika is trying to say is just because a person is pro-choice doesn't not make them pro-abortion, it makes them a person with a difficult decision. This is one of the biggest controversies of all times, some supporting abortion making them pro-choice and others who oppose this position which are pro-life supporters. Women should have the decision whether to have an abortion or not, and nobody should take that option from them. Abortion has been legal in the US since the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision in 1973, and the freedom to choose includes the rights to make a personal decision without reproduce.
Having an abortion isn't what every woman wants, but what if it was in a situation where the woman was at harm during conceiving? This situation is known as Hard Case category meaning the woman is unfortunately raped either with incest or at harm meaning to force a woman to have sex in the outcome of a baby. If a woman is rapped and is pregnant, defiantly they should be allowed to have an abortion because it is with a person who has now caused psychological pain for this helpless victim. The definition of “Incest” is to have sex with members of one’s own family. In some cases not only in the united stated, incest happens in numerous families. Some willing others unwillingly, in the result of this practice pregnancy happens. Medically, this fetus is at risk or being mentally handicap due to messing with the genetics. In these cases woman should not have to suffer having an at-risk child or having a child by a man who forced you to have a child. Most victims of the samarium find it a crime, and are injustice to not have an abortion because others find aborting a fetus a cruel act. A woman that is distressed suffers physiological harm. Not being unable to cope with this process they soon turn to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain; putting their life at stake, harming themselves because they find this an easy way out to escape. These endangered woman should at least have a say in what they thing is what's best for them, not what is best for this unborn fetus that happened from an unfortunate event.
