And lastly, based from the gathered results from the 35 respondents that the researchers were able to survey,57% of the respondents had the perception and strongly agree that violence on cartoon is a problem and should be lessen as shown in the figure 5. While all except for one respondent had strongly disagreed that cartoon is a dilemma and should be minimized. This results can be compared with Jusoffs’(2009) study that most of the scenes from the television shows today portrays aggressive behaviour not only the act of kicking but also to the extent of raping and killing. According to Ni Cheng(cited in Jusoffs’ study,2009), through media including television, there have been an increaced number of reported violent acts engaged by children and severity of act observed by children that were stated from The National Association for the Education of Young Children position in the year 1990’s.
Another questions were also included whether children accidentally apply violent scenes on other people after watching cartoon. Also, whether children were distracted from school or any activities because of wanting to watch cartoons. Based on figure 4,The most number of respondents or 46% had disagreed that children do violents actions on other people and 40% had also disagreed that children were distracted from school. While the least number of respondents or 9% or 3 out of 35 respondents had strongly agreed that children portrays violent action on others while the second to the least percent or 20% had strongly agreed that children were distracted from school because of cartoons. With this result, it can be related in the statement of Aletha Huston(cited in “Violence on Television: What Do Children Learn? What can Parents Do?”,1990) that “children who watch the violent shows, even ‘just funny’ cartons, were more likely to hit out at their playmates, argue, disobey class rules, leave tasks unfinished, were less willing to wait for things than those who watched the nonviolent programs”.
On the other hand, the researchers also included the question whether children imitate the personality and actions of the cartoon characters they had watched on cartoons. Based from the results shown on figure 3, the most number of the respondents with the same percentage with 43% had agreed that children imitate the action and personality of the cartoon characters. Then,20% had disagreed that children imitate the actions in the cartoon and 34% had disagreed that children imitate the character’s personality. Followed by 26% who strongly agreed in the imitation of actions and 14% in the imitation of charcters’ personality. While the remainig 11% had strongly disagree that children were influenced in the characters’ action and 9% that children were influenced in the characters’ personality.
