Women in the current work-force have stereotypes going against them, and these stereotypes need to be understood and repaired. Women still have a lot of internal and external barriers that shouldn't be so prominent in our evolving society. In Sheryl Sandberg's book, Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead, she emphasizes the point that women have come a long way in the business world as far as equality goes, yet women still have a long ways to go. The most concerning part about this realization is the fact that women are being disliked by men as well as women. When men are successful and powerful, they are more liked. Since there is a negative connotation towards powerful women, it is likely that women will not want to be leaders or in higher positions. They would rather be in the background and be liked, as they see the negative affect power can have. This is also seen when it comes to negotiating a salary. Men are practically expected to negotiate for themselves, and this is seen as a positive trait. However, when women negotiate, it is not taken to a liking by others.There is something monumentally wrong with this picture. This idea of women being disliked for being vocal and powerful is really holding them back. Women should be admired and appreciated for their success in a male-dominant world, instead of hated for it.
