Racism has been around since the dawn of human existence, coming in many forms and effecting all types of people. In the twenty-first century, racism still plays a part in ever society on the plant. But instead of overt racism people find different ways to disadvantage certain groups. The current American culture views overt racism as unfair, rude, and wrong, but that does not stop people from using unconscious racism. Unconscious racism is when the offender disadvantages another based on race without being out right racist to the person. Many case that have had the chance to change and prove the use of racism will not be overturn because proving intent is hard to impossible to prove. This help offenders by allowing them to use race as a factor in decisions but not be guilty of being a racist. Enabling people to still be racist but use uncurious racism.
Another theory to way unconscious racism is more prevalent now is that starting in the 60s larger number of middle class white families stared moving away from the cities and into the suburbs. While most of the minorities groups were still concentrated in large cities resulting in large areas dominated by one racial group. The separation help the majority group not see the racism going down in the cities, leaving an impression that created stereotype for the people living in the inner city. Making it easy for the people to ignore the racism because it did not affect them or their communities. The tradition continued with their children, they grew up in an area where everyone was the same and never experienced what the pressure of racial tension. Making it easy for some people to believe that racism was done and that the problem with it have already been fixed. But when first faced with the reality of racism, the majority would leave a blind eye to the subject, resulting in tensions between two areas.
Starting in March of 1961, the president made an executive order that first mentioned affirmative action and how the use of it will increase diversity.
