Although some believe racial quotas are a necessity for diversity and equality, it is actually true that, these quotas create discrimination and therefore should be abolished. Most were taught the line, “All men are created equal.” If this is the case, why when applying for a career or college does race play a factor in if someone gets the position or not? To end discrimination, the nation needs to overlook race, not put quotas on it.
Racial quotas were implemented to encourage diversity as well as encourage minorities to go into different vocations and strive for college degrees. Certainly it is true that, diversity and equality of opportunity is what our nation strives for. Although, making certain ethnicities more valuable in the application process is creating discrimination, what this ‘quota’ is trying to prevent.

Having a ‘unique’ ethnicity shouldn’t put one above anyone else.
Even more important, this quota was put in to abolish discrimination. Even though, it promotes it. Yes, it benefits certain minorities, but not all of them, which is promoting discrimination. It’s unfair to people who meet all requirements but are turned down because they are not as ‘diverse.’ Even if one doesn’t have a special ethnicity they can still be diverse. Everyone brings something different into the work field or university. To promote equality everyone should be looked at equally.
What it comes down to is, when someone needs brain surgery should they go to the person most qualified or diverse? When one needs their taxes done should they go to someone who’s diverse or someone who’s been doing taxes for ten years. Diversity is a plus, but the person who is the most qualified is a bigger plus.
Looking at it in a different point of view, during the 2008-09 season in the NBA almost 82% of the players were black. Should our nation set a quota in the NBA? Should we make it so the NBA is required to recruit a certain number of different races?
Others may argue that quotas were implemented because of our history’s past. In our counties history we have wronged other races. Although, that was the past. Our nation needs to learn from our mistakes and not create a cycle of wrong doings. Throughout these generations we have already made up for our past discretions. Now is the time were everything needs to be equal.
To be frank, I feel discriminated against all the time. Being Caucasian in some situations I feel I do not get the same leg up as other races. There are certain scholarships only offered to specific minorities, which is discrimination. The universal idea is: if our nation wants to end discrimination, putting racial quotas on things is only going to promote it. Diversity is good, but everybody is diverse, race shouldn’t be as big as factor. Ultimately, race should not help someone get a position or hurt someone in getting a position. It’s outrageous that to promote equality we have to put down other races.
