Racism has always been the same. It never changed. The term racism firstly exposes racial differences, then hate, discrimination and prejudice, lack of knowledge, hurt, tears and negative stereotype. This is an essay about racism in the US. Therefore I will explain what one of the biggest challenges in the world – racism – is and figure out when it occurred in the United States by traveling back in time of the American history.
First of all what is racism? There is no need to discuss neither talk more about this topic with zero knowledge about racism. So basically the definition of racism is: American Heritage College Dictionary, racism has two meanings. Firstly, racism is, “The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.” For example when the history of slavery started and was practiced throughout America in the 17th and 18th centuries. Secondly, racism is, “Discrimination or prejudice based on race.” This happens everywhere.
Racism is not just a fashion that came and will go away. No, we have known the existence of racism since way back in the time. When people had no school attendance, the mothers stayed at home, and the husbands went to work and came home in the evening. The time when countries were taken over by others with force and power. Remember slavery? The horrible time when the «white man» bashed on earth. At that time Africa was a developing country and they still are, and because they thought that a black man was the devils work, they used them as slaves. Can you do that because you are different from them?
How far can we actually go back in time to where racism started? Or did it all start in the US? In our days we can trace racism to the epoch of colonialism which started in 1400. When European countries sent out explorers to find new land and soon turned into a “white man” tormented on earth. Not only in Africa but also in America. That must be the answer. Personally I do think it started in the US but not by Americans because when the Europeans started to explore they found America. Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492. And when he did, they settled there even with no care for the Native Americans. Besides, not only were their land taken from them but a number of many massacres, wars, limitation of food rights and lastly we have the Trail of Tears. Also something that proves these events to be right from the European´s view was ideologies. Their system of thoughts contained of stereotypes of Native Americans as “merciless Indian savages”. On the other hand racism logically took place before the ancient when the Jews were persecuted repeatedly throughout history. Anti-Semitism became a phrase for racially grudge against Jews. On the contrary the roots of racism appeared in the ancient Greece. The ancient Greece welcomed the institution of slavery long before the Europeans and...
