Bone cancer is a very rare aggressive cancer that makes a considerable amount of pain in the bones of the patients. Bone cancer is a disease that occurs on or inside a bone. In most cases, bone cancer involves a tumor filled with abnormal cells that will usually appear on the exterior of the bone. Similar to other types of cancer, bone cancer causes much pain and can be life-threatening. My mother was diagnosed with primary bone cancer last year and it has been a very long, hard process for her and the whole family. The cause of primary bone cancer is not yet known. In addition, pain due to bone cancer is a complex symptom that affects most aspects of a person’s life, including physical functioning, the performing of activities of daily living, psychological and emotional status, and also social interactions. Unfortunately, pain can be very scary, especially if you think you can’t do anything about it or exactly why a person is having pain. Metastatic cancer cells damage bones and cause pain in several ways. One way is they produce substances that can dissolve and weaken the bones. This may cause the bone to break or fracture, which is very painful. Another way, as the tumor grows in the bone, nerve endings in and around the bone send pain signals to the brain.
