One stressor that I've identified and would like to reduce is the stress I get when dealing with customers all day. Sometimes it takes just one customer to put you in a bad mood for the rest of the day, regardless of well your day may be going. When I'm in a bad mood, I tend to take it out on the people around me, whether it is my coworkers, my boss, family and friends and even sometimes customers. I try to avoid letting a customer dictate how my day goes because I know it gives them satisfaction to get a reaction out me.Recently I've tried to take the high road (technique #8) whenever there may or may not be a confrontation. Some of the methods that I've used are to simply ignore them; pretend I'm doing something else, or take care of the next customer if there is one. If unable to avoid confrontation, I would calmly try to explain the situation to them but every now and then, there are customers that do not listen to the voice of reason. I truly believe that when dealing with customers, there is winning with them. When a customer confronts you, there are only a few options and which none are too favorable to you. The first option is to attack back which will always result in losing that customer and many more. This rarely happens but when it does, it can result in losing your job. The next option is to just give in and give them what they want.
