“Reflecting Back On English 1102” Essay

In English 1102, I was exposed to a variety of different genres, including, argumentative research paper, an annotated bibliography, an analytical paper, and a workplace specific piece. Entering this class the majority of papers I had written were all analytical, and in this class we went above and beyond the basic 5 paragraph essay. Though each paper had a different genre and style, I learned that each project was similar in composition.

Writing a resume is crucial beyond college, just as putting yourself out there and becoming successful is.
An argumentative research paper was the third project we did. This was the first, official research paper I had written. But besides writing just a research paper, it was also an academic argumentative research paper. The main components of this paper were a proposal, annotated bibliography, and the paper. This argument synthesis was focusing on a topic of interest in our career field. Though we learned about the Aristotelian, Toulmin Model, and the Rogerian style argument, we were required to write it in Rogerian style. In an Aristotelian style argument, the three main factors influencing the audience are logos, or logic; ethos, or credibility; and pathos, emotion (Georgia State University). The Toulmin Model is basically choosing a side and presenting why it’s better. This type was composed of a claim with support, a warrant and backing up, and a rebuttal. Finally, the style I used for my paper was the Rogerian Style argument, and the main goal of this paper is to bring the favoring and opposing side together...
