Reflection Paper

On the first day walking in that door feeling: scared, nerviness, and open-minded. On my first day at George Brown College walking with confident and excited in the program Career and Work Counselling. The program I always dreamed of being in. One of my classes I have got is called Overview of Career and Work Counselling. Overview of Career and Work Counselling, what it is about, what are we going to learn about and how is this class going to help us in the field as a counsellor? This class teaches me about the history of counselling, and how to counsellor client in a different way. On the first day in overview of Career and Work Counselling class questions in mind like what are we going to learn about? Well we are going to learn about a lot of things and all that has to do with Counselling, like how could we use our skills in the field and learn new skills that will make us a good counsellor. Furthermore we learn about the different ways of counselling. In this class we learn about difference between career and job. Also we learn about different skills that we can improve on and should start using in our life. In this essay I will be analyzing the topics we learned in class, also I will be analyzing why we learned these topics and how these topics will help me or any counsellor is a good counsellor. I also will be talking about how I grow throughout the class.

The first topic we learned about what are the goals of a Career and Work Counsellor? Well the goal of Career and Work Counsellor is to help the client understand his/her responsibility and helping them make their own decisions. What does a Career and Work Counselling do, is to help their clients find the skills they have and help them find a job that fits those she skills they have. A counsellor also helps their clients understand the world outside of their house and if they are new in the country or these who never had a job. Furthermore a counsellor has to help the client understand the values and skills they have, so we are able to understand what job fits the skills and values the client has. Counsellor also have the responsibility to help their clients with the emotion and negative thoughts they have, so they are able to have a god life, and a job they could enjoy. Overall a Career and Work Counsellor has a lot of job to do in helping their clients.
Something I also learned from the class was about the learning style. Learning style is very important to know because it helps us in our everyday life. It helps us at school and work too. Everyone has different learning styles. Example is in my personal life I like to work alone in a quiet place like the library. As for other people who like to work in a loud place like a cafe. Knowing your learning styles is very important, because we should know what learning styles we have to help us learn and work better in life.
