Reflective Essay On Writing Skills

742 words - 3 pages

I always thought that my writing skills were pretty good until I started this class. It has been thirteen years since I graduated high school and I quickly realized that I had a lot of “refreshing” to do as far as writing papers. I actually felt very discouraged when I took the grammar test and did not score very well. I knew that I had to dedicate myself and put a lot of effort into this class to really improve. The practice quizzes were a major help to refresh on everything I must have forgotten since high school. Being able to write a quality paper is a skill that everyone should master. Writing is such a major part of communication in this day and age so being able to write an intelligent paper will benefit you not just through school but also through life. Writing skills are a reflection of intelligence and I want to perfect my writing the best that I can. Being able to write a quality paper is a skill that everyone should master. ...view middle of the document...

The second paper was a visual text paper. The topic that I chose was “Everybody loves Raymond”. I feel that my writing skills showed some improvement by the second paper and my analysis on the topic was good but the organization was still not that great. My paper was a little all over the place and I did not end with a conclusion. If I were to write the second essay over again I would make a clear conclusion. After reading the paper again after I received my grade, I realized that the paper was not complete and needed to have a closing statement.

The third paper was a research paper. The topic I chose was the overuse of Facebook. I wanted to make sure that I did better on the third paper so I really dedicated a lot of time and effort. I took the feedback from the first two papers and really tried to strengthen the areas that my papers were lacking. I believe that my research paper showed great improvements from the previous assignments. I made sure that everything was organized this time. I stuck to the topic sentences this time and found that it really does help to write a more organized paper. I really enjoy doing research so the research paper is the one that I enjoyed writing the most.

I am going to attempt to revise one of my papers in hopes of correcting some of the mistakes that I previously made. If I can get a better grade on the paper it will show me that I have improved and learned from my mistakes. I really take pride in doing well on my assignments so anytime I see an improvement I know that the hard work is paying off. I really feel that I gained a lot of knowledge through this class and I will take everything that I have learned and put it to use and I will continue to try to improve. I am extremely pleased with this writing course. It was set up with all the tools needed to become a better writer. The topics were interesting and we covered all of the different writing styles. When I first started this class I was not very confident and now that I have made it to the end I can honestly say that I am more confident in my ability to write an intelligent paper and I will always strive to become better.

"On Writing": Stephen King is chosen as an author that has admirable writing skills
