Death is a big concern in many people. What will happen after death? Where will we go when we die? Many people go towards religious beliefs to help them deal with the death of a loved one or even death for themselves. Each religion has their own unique view on what will happen to them after they pass, whether it is to another form of life on earth or in the spiritual world. They also have different funeral styles and mourning ceremonies. Staying on the topic of death, religions also have different views on suicide being a sin and when or if it should be forgiven. The religions that stuck out were Atheism, Judaism, Pagan, Zoroastrians, Baha’is, Catholic, Buddhism, Islamic, and Hinduism.
Atheism is actually quite simple. Atheists do not believe in a god or a higher power. To an atheist, they don’t believe anything happens to your body or soul after death, they do not believe in a soul. Once you are dead all feelings, thoughts, and emotions are gone. They believe this to be reality. This reality allows them to be more productive in life, not worrying about what will happen after death (Got Atheism?). Being and atheist is often frowned upon by most religion believing people. Atheists are just like everyone else they just have their own, different beliefs.
Judaism is the religion of the Jewish, Hebrew, or Israelites. When a follower of Judaism passes away the body is washed, dressed in plain clothes, and then placed in a plain, wooden casket. Once the casket is closed, the casket is not allowed to be open again for any reason and someone stands guard and watches the casket at all times, out of respect, till it is buried in the ground. After all this is done there is a prayer, called Kaddish, said for the lost soul. The seven days after the body is buried is called Shiva, which is when they mourn over their loved one. The full mourning process lasts for a whole one year. During the mourning time people wear torn clothes or wear a black ribbon to show they are mourning. Also during mourning, they cover all mirrors in their house and sit on stools that are lower to the ground (Belief Net). In Judaism, Suicide is considered to be on the higher level on the list of serious sins. Suicide is not allowed at all by the Jewish law. There are only three reasons for suicide to be okay. The first reason is if someone else is forcing you to commit a murder. The second reason is idolatry and the third someone forcing you to commit adultery or incest. Other than that, killing oneself or asking someone to assist you in killing yourself is forbidden in the Judaism religion (Religious Views on Suicide).
The Pagan religion believes in rebirth. After death, the body goes to a temporary resting place till the body is healed and then is reborn. The body is washed in spring water, ocean water, oil, and rosemary oil to be purified and clean. During this process they say a blessing. Then the body is rubbed with incense and wrapped in a cloth. The Pagan religion says prayers...
