Religious Foundations in JudaismIn the first few books of the bible, much of the subject matter deals with God's relationship with his people, the Israelites. God chose to first talk to Abram and made him an offer. "Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed," said God. From the initial offer it was clear, God was on Abram's side, if he would cooperate. This must have been a strange encounter for Abram and surely took a lot of courage to follow through with Gods orders.God makes this agreement with Abram and makes it so that Abram will have many descendants, and they will all be his chosen people. God vows to protect the Israelites and even punish those that stand in his people's way. God continuously tells Abram and his people that their descendants will near innumerable. God had to be repetitive because it would have been natural for Abram to be suspicious.God sealed the covenant when Abram was 99 years old. He said to Abram, "As for me, this is my covenant with you: You shall be the ancestor of a multitude of nations. No longer shall your name be Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you the ancestor of a multitude of nations...And I will give to you, and to your offspring after you, the land where you are now an alien, all the land of Canaan, for a perpetual holding; and I will be their God." This was quite a promise, but considering Abram always did God's will, he was worthy of the reward. When encountered with people who were disobedient to God, the results were often drastic. Soddom and Gomorrah were two sin filled cites that felt the wrath of the Lord. After observing the problems in both cities, God elected to use his powers to completely destroy both cities. Abram begged God at one point not to destroy the whole cities, but God was intent on showing his wrath.Years after Abraham's death, God found another human to confide in with Moses. "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob...I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cry on account of their taskmasters. Indeed, I know...
