Renewable Energy Resources: Solar Energy Essay

2194 words - 9 pages

Solar energy is a fast growing energy resource among the renewable energy resources in the market and potential for solar power is huge to contribute towards the power demand almost in all the countries. The solar irradiation and temperature are mainly depends on the output power produced from the PV conversion process. Hence the maximum power point of PV array is tracked to maximize the efficiency of Photovoltaic system. Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control system in general is taking care of extraction of maximum power from the sun light. In this paper, a novel MPPT algorithm using hill climbing method and fuzzy system is presented to ensure the maximum MPPT efficiency in order to ...view middle of the document...

The efficiency can be increased by developing the material used in photovoltaic (PV) cells as well as improving the energy management of the system in order to absorb maximum available power from the PV. Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) usually is implemented with power electronic converters which act as an interface between PV array and consumption point in the power system. Generally a PV system may be a standalone system or grid connected. In the first case it is necessary to keep the output voltage of the system in the standard range and avoiding of power cut. Inverter plays a vital role in the PV system in [1] a boost dc to ac inverter was performed with the sliding mode controller. The boost inverter is

a device that is able to generate a sinusoidal voltage with amplitude larger than the input voltage.
In [2] & [3] the authors gave importance to the boost inverter. These papers propose a new voltage source inverter referred to as boost inverter or boost DC - AC converter. These papers propose a new voltage source inverter referred to as boost inverter or boost DC - AC converter. The three phase inverter with maximum power point tracking was discussed in [4]. In [5] the author discussed about the control strategy of boost inverter. In [6] the author compared the two MPPT techniques with PV systems. Maximum Power Point Trackers (MPPTs) play an important role in photovoltaic (PV) power systems because they maximize the power output from a PV system for a given set of conditions, and therefore maximize the array efficiency.
In [7] the author presented a high performance single-stage inverter topology for the autonomous operation of a solar photovoltaic system. The proposed configuration which can boost the low voltage of photovoltaic (PV) array, can also convert the solar dc power into high quality ac power for driving autonomous loads without any filter. In [8] fuzzy logic control (FLC) is proposed to control the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for a photovoltaic (PV) system. In [9] the examine the fuzzy based MPPT controller. The main purpose of the paper [10] is to develop a photovoltaic simulation system with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) function using matlab/Simulink software. In [11] a high performance of single-stage inverter topology for grid connected PV systems was discussed.
In [12] a novel voltage source boost inverter was explained with matlab simulation and discussed about the single and two conversion processes while converting DC to AC source. In [13] a novel dc to ac boost based on sinusoidal-pulse-width-modulation (SPWM) control was explained. This paper also describes a new PWM strategy for proposed boost inverter. In [14] a solar power generation is investigated as an isolated portable system using a boost converter and a single stage sine wave boost inverter. In [15] a single stage boost inverter operation is explained briefly with its control operations. In [16] a basic operation of power...
