Many of the big brand name stores that are across the nation such as Apple, Sony, Macy's Victoria's Secret, and GAP are only found as far up as Albany and they just seem to dissapear. Is there a reason that these big brands don't come up to regions such as Potsdam? Are there companies who are willing to come up? Are people ready for these big companies to come and build their stores? Many of the stores that people would like to see in Potsdam are not willing to come for a very important reason. That reason is the risk of failing and all the money that would be spent into bringing these places to Potsdam.

The cost of building stores is immense and the cost of transportating merchandise and the income of many people who live in Potsdam aren't willing to spend big money on items. Many of the people that would work are not willing to support the introduction of the big brands because of loyalty to local shops.
The zoning laws that would allow stores to come to Potsdam are not in the favor for these big name brands. They make it very difficult for them to come and build their stores. The infrastructure of Potsdam is not the way that many brand name stores would like because of there are not roads that would allow people to reach the stores.
Many attempts to build stores in Potsdam have been made but they have been foiled by Potsdam residents and the town. One prime example of this is when Walmart wanted to build a store in before but the Town of Potsdam refused to have come into town. Potsdam was against having Walmart come into town but eventually came to town and it has been successful and has created jobs for citizens and has helped stimulate the economy. Another great example of an attempt to bring a store to Potsdam is when Mr. Labbe a Potsdam resident wanted to sell his land to Dunkin Donuts and let then build on his land but the town didn't allow it before he was able to sell the land and the deal went down the drain. Many companies see this as a threat to opening and then refuse to open because of the fact that it is very expensive to get drawings and other different methods to then show the zoning board and then to get shot down. Is no longer an option for these big companies because they feel that they should just focus on whats necessary. One of the many interesting that I have noticed throughout my research is that the Town Of Potsdam and The Village of Potsdam have differing views on what can be down with the land in Potsdam.

The public transportation situation of Potsdam is very poor and because there isn't the money for the purchase of buses or trains for people to go shop and because students in potsdam dont have cars the ability to get people to travel to go shop is hurting the prospect of stores into coming to Potsdam.
The only real form of transportation in potsdam besides the people who own cars. Is Potsdam Taxi has carved out a niche where they have there specific clientele and they make money and if there was a form of...
