Research- The diligent and systematic inquiry or investigation into a subject in order to discover or revise facts, theories, and applications. Scientists are constantly doing research for new developments in the world. They are willing to do anything for their experiments including the ever-so controversial use of animals. “An estimated 26 million animals are used every year in the United States for scientific and commercial testing” (Animal Testing ProCon.org). While more and more animals are used people begin to take their stand on the issue. I do not agree with animal research and say it should be banned.
However, many people support animal research and say it is a necessity. One of the pros of animal research is that it helps researchers to find drugs and treatments. In most cases this is true but not all. Sometimes many animals are tested for treatments and drugs that human will never use or consume. Also people are supporting animal research because they are considered similar to humans. When in reality this is false, animals are different than people, thus their testing results are not always useful or practical for human comparisons. Everyone thinks a lot of good things can come out of animal research but that is not the case. Animal research is not beneficial, for us or the animals.
With this in mind, I would definitely have to say one major con of animal testing is the loss of many animal lives. If the animals do not die in the research they are then put to sleep. “This adds to the estimated 90 million animals killed worldwide for research” (Medical Animal Experimentation). The animals are tortured for years, and some die in vain for, as I said earlier, some “substances which will not see approval or will not be consumed or used by the public” (Animal Testing). Many opposed to animal research say that it is cruel and inhumane to experiment on animals.
In addition to millions of animals dying, there is also the price of animal research and it can be quite high. Several factors play into the price of animal research. Animals have to be fed, housed, and cared for. Along with the research, “animal testing may occur more than once and over the course of months, which means that additional costs are incurred”...
