Case Study 2

1102 words - 5 pages

This document provides an analysis on the current state of Daimler-Benz AG and Chrysler Corp IT network. It provides identified security and technological issues that will affect the merger between Daimler-Benz AG and Chrysler Corp, recommended solutions to mitigate these issues, and a timeline on how long to implement the security plan.

Introduction
The paper will analyze the information security and technology issues that have arisen because of the merger between Daimler-Benz AG and Chrysler Corp. These vulnerabilities will be brought forward on this report for a better understanding of why it is an issue and how it can affect the merger. Once these vulnerabilities have been discussed, a security strategy will be developed that utilizes confidentiality, integrity, and availability. This security strategy will ensure a solution that will mitigate these concerns and provide a smooth and secure transition into the merger. Having an effective security strategy is important because “data in an IT system is at risk from various sources; user errors and malicious and non-malicious attacks” (Benson).
This report is broken into four sections that will provide an overall plan of action for the merger.
• Section 1 will provide the known issues
• Section 2 will provide recommended solutions for these issues
• Section 3 will prioritize these solutions in a timeline
• Section 4 will summarize the plan and next steps
Let us begin with security and technology issues to recognize and comprehend the vulnerabilities found in this analysis.
Security and Technology Issues
Merriam-Webster defines vulnerability as being open to attack or damage. This is the reason why it is imperative to identify vulnerabilities and to mitigate them. During the analysis, it was discovered that there were three defining technology issues and a security issue that needed to be addressed. These issues can mean the difference concerning a successful merger between the networks or total failure.
Issue #1
The merger between Daimler-Benz AG and Chrysler Corp has created a void when it comes to current policies of both organizations. These two organizations are located in different countries and have different networks. The current policies are written for their respective networks and may not be suitable for the upcoming merger. The question that should be asked is; which policies to use and are they current and effective?
Issue #2
An issue that can effect communications between users in the organization is the current email system. There are currently 16 European systems and 1 Chrysler system, which can cause problems in sharing information. These different systems can make the information system vulnerable because the “lack of best practices” from users with different systems can open the system to malware and breaches.
Issue #3
The upcoming merger will face a tough road ahead with the integration of networks between Daimler-Benz AG and Chrysler...
