Sebastian Seung’s talk “I am my connectome” is very interesting, informative, and intriguing, but some of his ideas are a bit controversial.
I agree that I am more than my gene, and that I am my connectome; however, I don't think that we, humans, are composed of one single consciousness. If each consciousness was like a software similar to operating systems, the consciousness we have which is composed of experiences, the data we gather all throughout our life, would not be the only operating system present in our body and brain, our hardware. Similar to bios feature, the first software run by a PC when powered on, each hardware (human in this case) has a simple software, sub-consciousness, installed before it builds a connectome (a unique consciousness).
