The Prestige Robocop
The case is the part of the computer that holds everything together and gives it a shape. Think of it as the body on a car. It does nothing by itself, but it determines which parts can go into the computer, how many of those parts, and also determines what the computer will look like. We chose the Corsair Carbide Series 300R for its durable, lightweight frame, slick looks, and impeccable cooling capabilities and airflow. It also includes two fans and room for five more, meaning that this has the potential to be one of the safest air-cooled rigs possible. Since it is quite a roomy case, there will be plenty of space for upgrades down the line. (Corsair, 2014) ...view middle of the document...
The memory (or RAM) is the computer’s short-term memory unit. It stores information for all current processes and determines how many programs can run, how fast they can run, and the overall speed of the computer. We chose the Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory. It’s low-cost, reliable, fast, and its 8GB size will keep up with the most demanding of gamers. Its clipless design also allows for better airflow and a cooler, safer PC. (Kingston, 2014)
The storage (i.e. hard drive) is the component of the computer that actually stores data. We opted for multiple drives; one drive is solid-state, and the other is a hard disk. The solid state drive is a Seagate 600 Series 240GB 2.5" Solid State Disk, and the hard disk is a Western Digital WD Black 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s Hard Drive. We chose both of these drives for their high-capacity storage and blazing-fast speeds. The reason we opted for two drives is that solid-state drives are much faster than hard disks but are also much more expensive. By choosing a low-capacity solid-state drive and a high-capacity hard disk, we have effectively cut costs and created a faster machine by allowing the user to store the operating system and other important programs on the solid-state drive, and store all other data on the hard disk. The Graphics Card
This is the true workhorse of the Prestige Robocop. The graphics card is the component that handles all graphical data, such as pictures, videos, and games. Since this PC caters to the hardcore gaming market, we opted for the highest-end card we could get at our budget....
