The most significant writer in all of English literature William Shakespeare was born in 1564 to a glove maker in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Shakespeare attended grammar school in 1582 he latter married an older woman named Anne Hathaway and had 3 children with her. Around 1590 he left his family and travelled to London to work as an artist and playwright where he became part- time owner of the globe theatre. His career bridged the reigns of Elizabeth II and James II. He was a favourite of both royals. William Shakespeare is the best playwright in the world because he creates an atmosphere of tension and excitement in act 3 scene 1 by using puns, contrasting people and using diverse languages.
William Shakespeare embrace social and chronological context by taking the story and poems from contrasting people for example Arthur Brooke’s poem-the tragicall historye of Romeus and Juliet which was witnessed in 1562, 13 centaury feuding families the Montecchi and Capelleti families. Romeo first known as Romeus is a Montecchi, now recognised as Montague, Juliet is a Capelleti now known as Capulet. Both families have a rivalry of each other and only care about their prominence and civility.
In act 3 scene 1 it shows numerous signs of language such as repetition such as the word “Hot “for example when Benvolio is speaking to Mercutuio” I pray thee, good Mercutio, lets retire the day is hot”. The repetition emphasises on it also makes us have a better understanding of what’s happening for example he is saying it is hot. When Shakespeare begins with Benvolio pray thee, good Mercutio, lets retire, the day is hot, the Capulet abroad, and if we meet we should not scape a brawl, for now, these hot days, is the mad blood stirring.” Right there Benvolio senses a fight might take place it also talks about the climate and how blazing it is. Benvolio also tries to avoid a fight, Mercutio doesn’t care if he gets detected by the prince as he is neither Montague nor Capulet because they will be put to annihilation, the tension builds up in the scene when Mercutio gets slaughter by Tybalt, and this foreshadows their deaths and creates an emotional paradox. The heat in this scene shows hate and vexation you can get this when Benvolio says “is the mad blood stirring. A director would stage this in a discotheque as Mercutio and Benvolio are in a public place this will be undeniably good as everybody would be screaming their heads off and the music would be ear-splitting, also it may be overcrowded so people may scrape or overhear a discussion and there’s always a fight ready to happen.
“Tybalt enters with others” in a stage direction could be shown as a bunch of hooligans, with an animal look as Mercutio calls him “king of cats “which is a pun, they could be bopping and tormenting anything in their path. This would be good in a discotheque because people could be physically or mentally injured this will create envy as Tybalt is irritated as Romeo came to the Capulet’s...
