•What are the signs and symptoms of gonorrhea in a male and in a female?Jane and her partner diagnosed with penicillinase producing N.gonorrhoease develop sign and symptoms of dysuria and discharge, mild or asymptomatic in women. N.gonorrhoeae becomes resistant to penicillin and tetracycline. This bacteria damage the mucosa, causing an inflammatory reaction and formation of a purulent exudate. Male experienced inflammation in the urethra which results in dysuria and a purulent urethral discharge following by epididymitis and prostatitis. In females, the infection may involves the endocervical canal and frequently asymptomatic. It may affect Skene's and Bartholin's glands causing more complications such as: PID and infertility in female, infection in the anus and rectum when the infection is spread from the vagina (Gould, 2011, pp. 637-638).Additional information collected for Gonorrhea. It can cause infections in the genital, rectum, and throat that can infect both men and women. Some men and women may have no symptoms. People who do have symptoms especially in men may experience: a burning sensation when urinating; a white, yellow, or green discharge from the penis; painful or swollen testicles. Women may experience: painful or burning sensation when urinating; increased vaginal discharge; vaginal bleeding between periods. Rectal infections may either cause no symptoms or cause symptoms in both men and women that may include: discharge; anal itching; soreness; bleeding; painful bowel movements (Gonorrhea - CDC Fact Sheet).•How does gonorrhea lead to PID?Pelvic inflammatory disease is a complication of gonorrhea infection of the reproductive tract. The infection usually originates as vaginitis or cervitis and is poly microbial often involving several causative bacteria. The microbes rise through the uterus into the fallopian tubes. In the early stage of the inflammation, stimulates more invasions of bacteria into mucosa. Untreated gonorrhea can cause serious and permanent health problems in both women and men. In women, untreated gonorrhea can cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). In men, gonorrhea can cause a painful condition in the tubes attached to the testicles. Thus, the majority of infections arise from sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea (Neisseria gonorrhoeae) and chlamydiosis. (Gould, 2011, p. 627).•Is there any peritonitis involved?PID is a common problem and is a matter of concern because of the potential acute complications such as peritonitis and pelvic abscess as well as the long-term problems of infertility and the high risk of ectopic pregnancy. Peritonitis may indicated by increasing abdominal distension and rigidity. When peritonitis involves, the infection spreads into peritoneal cavity (Gould, 2011, pp. 627-628).•Will Jane develops infertility?Pelvis inflammatory disease can lead not only to peritonitis and pelvic abscess, and also causing long-term problems of infertility.
