In the book Angela's ashes the narrator tells the story of an Irish family which runs away from their homeland due to problems with their father, he committed a crime which was bad enough for other men to give his head a price, he committed a crime that changed completely the family's course in this country, the at last had to run away, the situation with their father was too dangerous to keep the risk of staying in their homeland, the family of 6 that was completely raised on Ireland had to suddenly run away from a place where after all the memories, all the history and attachment to this country was not into the best historical condition, there was an economical struggle called the economical war with which after the parents had worked to sustain the family their intern economic situation was not better than the country's, for a family with both parents and 4 kids the bad economic situation of their beloved homeland is still a good reason ...view middle of the document...
America wasn’t much better than Ireland, it was in fact in a worst situation that their homeland, the biggest economic crisis ever witnessed in modern history was taking place in history exactly during the time the McCourt’s moved there, the great depression which “was a severe worldwide economic depression in the decade preceding World War II. The timing of the Great Depression varied across nations, but in most countries it started in 1930 and lasted until the late 1930s or middle 1940s. It was the longest, deepest, and most widespread depression of the 20th century” (the great depression 21 February 2014) so they basically run away from a wasp that chased them and run directly into the nest, in my opinion they would have to run away from Ireland sooner or later not only because the problem with the multiple homicides looking for the McCourt’s father but because of their economic situation that wasn’t getting any better thanks to their father’s alcoholism which made every single boss and hirer reject him and even tell their partners to avoid hiring Mr. McCourt, but going to America where the greatest crisis ever lived in the 20th century even big enough to spread way farther than the US borders, if they stayed in Ireland their father would have either ended up dead or hiding and with no money, but with the situation they lived later when they got to the US was way worse than that, in my opinion the moving from Ireland to America was a bad move from the McCourts because even when they were in a really bad situation in their homeland the situation they found in America was worse.
