As I finish the race, the taste of salt seeps into my mouth, my legs scream from torture, overflowing with lactic acid, my head resonates the pulse of my violently throbbing heart, and I have never felt more alive.Throughout my experiences as an athlete the sport of running has always been the most rewarding activity in which I have participated. The sport is so intriguing and inspirational to me - it has always helped me to keep looking on the bright side of life. The sport of running develops human qualities that are applicable in every phase of life and it therefore gives me the greatest personal satisfaction. For in order to excel at this sport by other's standards and/or one's own, a runner must develop and master self-discipline. This self-discipline is simple but difficult to achieve, for it is only achieved by paying the price. Running demands this self-discipline; it is a necessity. Whether it be at the starting line of a race, in the desk of a quiet classroom awaiting a test, or consoling a friend when in need, the ability for the mind and body to succeed to their highest potentials under pressure is essential. For this, I know the rest of my life and future will be successful and enjoyable because of this most meaningful experience that has prepared and shaped my mind more than anything.Because running is such an important part of my life, my opinion is biased. The sport of running is not for everyone. Running is an exceptionally lonely sport.
