Same-Sex MarriageSame-sex marriage is something that should be legal everywhere. The discrimination against homosexuals in the sense of marriage is a denial of equality and it is immoral to deny them of this right. Same-sex marriage is just as sacred as heterosexual marriage, so why is it illegal?Same-sex marriages should be just as legal as heterosexual marriages. Just because something is different, doesn't make it immoral. Although many people view same-sex marriage as "unnatural" and "abnormal," there are many things that people value that are unnatural in some sense. Everyone deviates from the norm in some way whether it be their clothing, their political views, or their hobbies. Banning something that deviates from the norm makes no logical sense. Therefore, banning same-sex marriage for deviating from the norm is wrong because not everything that is unnatural is immoral. The norm, in this sense, is traditional marriage. The definition of marriage is "A formal union that exists between a man and a woman, typically recognized by law, by which they become husband and wife." Obviously most people engage in heterosexual relationships, but does it follow that it is wrong to engage in homosexual relationships? Very few people are ambidextrous, fluent in 5 different languages, play the triangle, or breed goats, yet none of these are immoral because they are unusual. Many may say that since some of these are things that people choose to do, then that means that homosexuality must also be a choice.Homosexuality is not a choice. Homosexuals are born the way that they are, therefore it is natural and good to form homosexual relationships. Relationships that should eventually be allowed to be recognized by law. To deny homosexuals of something that is natural and good is discriminatory and wicked. Although this argument is strong, it does present a flaw. The flaw in this inference is that it assumes that all innate desires are good. Researchers have conducted studies that have shown that some people are born with a predisposition toward violence, but that doesn't mean that they will go out and kill their neighbor any more than the rest of us. So while homosexuals are born the way that they are, it doesn't mean that they ought to act on them. Nor does it mean that they ought not to act on them, even if they are not innate. People certainly don't choose their sexual feelings, whether they want to or not. Although both of these sides assume a connection between the origin of homosexual orientation and the moral value of the homosexual activity, determining the origin of the feelings will not determine whether it's moral or not to act on them. Simply relying on the basis that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice doesn't show that it is an immoral lifestyle choice. The fact that homosexuals cannot procreate with one another should not be a factor that stands in the way of a homosexual couple getting married....
