Richard achieved many things in life, but he is best known for his poem ''To Lucasta going to war''. He was born into an Old and Wealthy Kentish Family. Richard Lovelace was an amazing poet who had many accomplishments through his life. Richard lived a legendary life as a solider, lover, and courtier. He was born at Woolwich , England in 1618. Richard had four ...view middle of the document...
Richard had really put his all in that poem. Richard was praised for being the most admirable and beautiful person that ever eye held, much admired and adored by the female sex. Most people thought of Richard as a awesome person (Magill 192).
Richard died in Woolwich in 1657. There is no record of his death. Richard's Doctor said that Richard died by a heart attack from a phone call. The woman Richard always talks about in his poems name is Luxcasta, who he was so in love with. She delivered a message to him telling him that she had gotten married. Soon after Richard had a heart attack on the phone. Richard was in love with Luxcasta for nine years (Magill 193).
Two Critic poems by Richard Lovelace that I really felt interested in was ''To Lucasta, Going to War'' and ''To Althea from Prison''. Line 1 in ''To Lucasta, Going to War'' means to me about a bad break up ever. Lines 2-4 the speaker does not want his love to think he is unkind because he is ditching her to fight in a battle. also that he is basically trying to cover his bases. Lines 5-6 he is cheating with his mistress. Lines 7-8 seems to me that he is cheating on his poor Lucasta with none but warfare itself.Lines 9-10 at the beginning of the third stanza he says she wil adore his kind of board. Lines10-11 apparently Lucasta will totally adore the speaker inconstancy because he could not love her as much as he love and honor even more.
Lines 1-4 in the poem to althea from prison talks about how love supposedly comes to town. Lins5-6 means how love has the power to make absence people share life like they are present. Lines 7-8 I finally learned what happens when love brings althea. Lines 9-14 Its all about the party and everyone drinking, which they have two different occasions. Lines 15-16 talks about how the speaker says, He is free even in prison.
Lines17-22 means the speaker drops everything and praises the king and how he only wants to praise the king of England, even though it can keep him in prison. Line23-24 The speaker sings about his king and large wings do not...
