A student is sitting in class waiting for the glorious moment: the time when the lunch bell sounds. The students stomach growls and groans as it waits in agony. The young man rushes to the cafeteria to enjoy a delicious meal. He would find himself disappointed in the food and other factors that add up to be our lunchtime experience. Our school needs to create a more enjoyable lunch period for the students. To improve the students of South Western Senior High School’s lunchtime, our school should improve quality of food, gain new payment ideas and pick up new procedures of lunch.
First off, the largest issue in our school when it comes to lunch is the quality and the amount of the food we are fed. Have you ever heard of “Pink Slime”? Pink Slime is ammonia treated meat filler that schools in Pennsylvania, Illinois, Virginia and Texas serve to their students. Chances are that our school serves that slop to us. The food is often burnt making the food much less appetizing. Not only are we served meat filler, contaminated meats or burnt foods, the serving size does not satisfy the average student’s appetite. The majority of the school should not have to pay additional expenses just so they can buy extra food to please their appetite. The hardworking students of South Western High School deserve better than low quality meats and small portions.
Secondly, there are many inconveniences that live in the payment procedures. Our school does not allow students to ‘borrow money’, which means a student that doesn’t have 5 cents for his lunch cannot get the lunch. That student instead has to get a peanut butter and jelly in place of the entrée of the day or get a snack. Next, our school should think about making a way that a student can see his or her account balance on Sapphire. It would make it more convenient for the student to see the amount of money in his/her account. In addition, our school should lower the price for the entries. The students of South Western High School pay over two dollars for the small portions or low quality food. The price of a school meal is quite costly which needs to be rectified. The inconveniences in the payment procedures make lunch less enjoyable for students.
Finally, the lunch should be more...
