Community Service
The concept of requiring students to be involved in some type of community service is based on the idea that communities and individuals can be helped in their development through volunteer service. Doing community services has lots of benefits for the students and the community. Community service provides the opportunity for students to share their knowledge, skills, and abilities with someone who might not have benefited from such actions. Students find that they are able to develop skills in leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Community service can also help support families with day care and elderly care, improve schools, and beautify the community by cleaning up parks and roads. By just getting involved in community service we can give back to people and to our community. High schools should require students to be involved in some type of community service.
First of all, high schools should require students to be involved in some type of community service, because it helps students find their passion and interest in whatever they want to do with their life. Community service is a really good way for students to explore the world around them, and define a possible career path. By engaging in volunteer work, students have an opportunity to learn about life experience. The experiences allow them to make wiser choices about college and career options. Also students who participate in community service tend to do better in school. Some schools reward students who participate in community service; it may even lead to getting a scholarship. It is not just schools that reward students or volunteers, but the community service they participated are also a reward to them.
Equally important, high schools should require students to be involved in some type of community service because it can help our community. Volunteering allows students to become directly involved in their communities. Some students don’t realize how important volunteers are to the country and to many organizations. Volunteer activities can include events such as park and street cleanups, local school projects, serving food at a homeless center, helping with youth activities, and more. Volunteering is a great way to bring people together and teach others. Volunteering not only makes an impact on the greater community, but it impacts our family, friends, and local citizens. Volunteering will teach kids that giving back is not only the right thing to do, but helping others is the right thing to do. Also the Corporation for National and Community Service says that in 2013, 62.6 million Americans volunteered 7.7 billion hours of work. The estimated value of this work is almost $173 billion. That’s almost as much as the GDP of Ukraine, just in volunteer hours!
On the other hand, some people believe high...
